Christ tells us no man knows the time of his return, but he didn't say we wouldn't know the signs of his return. Pt.2
We Will See the SIgns!
Again the rapture and 2nd coming is the same event but Notice the two things Paul mentions must take place before hand
Man of lawlessness is shown to the world
Now Jesus Prophesied that before his coming there would be a great falling away from the faith "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another." Matthew 24:9-10 ESV
Paul is basically mentioning and stating Jesus exacts words he says "Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first." 2 Thessalonians 2:3 ESV Now the ESV Bible translate the Greek word to be rebellion but other translations translate the word to be apostasy, or falling away NASB, KJV, NKJV, CSB,NIV
But both Paul and Jesus both mentions that there must be a great falling away of believers. "At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another." Matthew 24:10 NASB I would also like to mention that the word "many" used here in this verse is Greek .Actually translates to be "most " or "a large amount" . The second thing Paul mentions must take place before the coming of the son of man is that the man of lawlessness will be revealed. Now some key words, notice how paul uses the word man of lawlessness, "Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction," 2 Thessalonians 2:3 ESV Some translations translate it man of lawlessness and others various things
Csb -man doomed to Destruction
Nkjv-son of perdition
Kjv-son of perdition
Nasb-son of destruction
Niv- the man doomed for destruction
All of these translations get one key thing, the fact it is an actual man. In fact the only of place in the word of God the words "son of of perdition" is mention is referring to Judas, "While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled." John 17:12 NASB
The son of perdition , man of lawlessness, man of sin , etc all these titles refer to a man known as the AntiChrist. Antichrist means to oppose Christ or be in opposition of Christ. Simply the opposite of Christ. Look what John writes "Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son." 1 John 2:18, 22 NASB
So John writes to the people in the church that they've already heard that the Antichrist will come in the future, but he also tells them that the spirt of the Antichrist is already among us "the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son."
Many Christians take this verse to be the Catholic system, and the pope, because they were anti-christ in there views and etc,. We also can look at the world around us today and see that the world is also in a anti christ state, because it all is in opposition to Jesus. But a system is not a man. The Catholic systems and even human governments around us are anti-christ but these systems are not to be allegorized or symbolized to be a person but rather the word of God Says the Antichrist is an actually person or man.
Look at the verse again "and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction," 2 Thessalonians 2:3 ESV
This man or the Anti Christ will be used by Satan greatly in the end times to do what is known as the Abomination of Desolation that Jesus mentions again here in his prophecy of his own coming."So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains." Matthew 24:15-16 ESV
Now what is the abomination of desolation Jesus and Paul are talking about? Well Daniel let's us know in chapter 9 of his book "And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week, and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator."" Daniel 9:27 ESV
Paul comes behind both Jesus and Daniel and interprets for us what they meant. He says "Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God." 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 ESV
In the end times a man titled the Anti-Christ will establish a covenant of peace, or some christians take it to mean that he will affirm Isarel's right to the land. During this time of peace between nations, which will last 3 1/2 years, he will go into the newly rebuilt temple in Jerusalem and claim himself to be God.
Then the king will do as he pleases, and he will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will speak monstrous things against the God of gods; and he will prosper until the indignation is finished, for that which is decreed will be done. Daniel 11:36 NASB
Paul is teaching that once we see the great falling away ,and the abomination of desolation take place or Antichrist reveal himself to the world, then the Day of the LORD will happen after these events at the end of the tribulation perioud.
So if anyone tells you that Jesus will return tomorrow , next week, next year, etc., unless you see the great falling away and abomination of desolation take place that paul teaches us, it's all lies. Look back at Jesus words, referring back to what he previously stated earlier of the abomination of desolation and the falling away as well as other signs.
"Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." Matthew 24:34-35 ESV
So I leave you on this note , Is your theology built upon tradition , the latest fads inside of christianity, or Is it the word of God?
If the theology you are stating Is not mentioned in the bible or by the
- The Prophets
- The Apostles
- The Early Church Father's
that theology is not biblical.
Let us as the church feel encouraged that God cannot lie in his word. This current world will not pass away unless we see these 2 signs Paul tells about. As the world gets darker and darker and unbelievers mentions this is the end, may you rest on the truth of God and not humans.
